The Tap Room

The Tap Room LogoWhile waiting for Ugly Bill a few Fridays ago, Matt and I ventured to the Tap Room for lunch. We had been there once before to try and watch a football game, but it was so packed, we left right away. This time, it was much quieter.

The Tap Room is your typical Pacific Beach bar (albeit newer and cleaner than most.) Lots of seating, multiple TVs, beach-themed decor, and ditzy, SDSU-student waitresses.

We ordered a margarita pizza that wasn’t bad, but nothing to write home about. They have both sit-down service and a lunch counter set-up where you can get pizza by the slice, etc. They also have the cleverly named T & A Tuesdays, where you can get $3 taps and 1/2 off appetizers. T & A? Taps and apps? Get it??

We didn’t actually get any beers (due to the imminent tattooing) but their selection of local beers is decent: Alesmith, Stone, Port, Greenflash, Coronado, Karl Strauss, etc. Our rocket scientist bartender was a little puzzled when Matt asked if they ever had casks (they don’t) but promptly responded that they didn’t have a license that allowed people to carry out alcohol. Good selection, but not a real beer-oriented bunch.

All in all, I’d give the Tap Room 2 stars. Not a horrible place to end up, especially if you want some relatively cheap local brew, but not very inspired. And I’d be willing to bet it’s packed on the weekends with the PB crowd. ‘Nuff said.
